The Joyous Story

Hello! My name is Joy.

I am passionate about cultivating joy in our lives, and the lives of our children. I believe that  joy can be unleashed by living a life of kindness to Self, Others and the Planet. 

In 2010, I was a lonely 30 something, unsure of my future. In a pique of inspiration I did a Joyous Act (of kindness) every day for a year and I connected to myself and the world around me in a way I hadn’t done before. My philosophy of life changed that year for the better. I started to see that we have incredible power within us and believe that joy is always present, if we look hard enough. As a result, I was truer to myself, happier and more resilient.

True priorities

But it can be hard to maintain good habits. Sometimes our outer worlds don’t reflect our inner beliefs and we find ourselves out of alignment once again. It is easy to veer back into the fast lane and forget our true priorities.  I did.

Ten years later when the pandemic hit, I asked myself some difficult but important questions about the life I really wanted for myself and my then, 3 year old son. I realised that I had become trapped in a system that didn’t have the same values as I do, or allow for the flexibility I needed as a lone parent of a young child.

What I wish

It takes courage to be honest with ourself and to do the things we know we really want to do. It takes courage to reflect and consider our lives beyond face value. That’s why I created The Joyous Journal, a supportive space for us to explore our inner worlds and reflect on what it really means to be happy.  My wish is that you find some magic in the pages and it helps you to cultivate more joy in your day to day life.

Remember, there is joy to be found everywhere, even on the hard days. We just need to keep our eyes and our hearts open.
